I'm a passionate AI researcher with expertise in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Optimization. My journey began with a strong foundation in computer science from IIIT Vadodara, followed by an MS by Research from IIIT Hyderabad.

I love to work and collaborate on bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications.

Currently, I'm working at Napkin AI (a visual AI startup), leading the AI research to make the visual communication easier and more intuitive. Previously, I've had the privilege of working at Amazon as an Applied Scientist and conducting research at Microsoft Research Lab, India.

Please feel free to connect if you have an interesting problem to discuss and brainstorm solutions!

Experience & Education

My professional journey and academic background

Mar 2022 - Present
Applied Researcher - Napkin AI
Building Napkin's AI to make visual communication easier and more intuitive. Leading AI research for understanding user prompt, generating visuals and ranking them for business storytelling.
May 2020 - Feb 2022
Applied Scientist - Amazon
Worked with Amazon Catalogue and Selection Monitoring (ASCS) team. Developed a fully automatic technique for information extraction from web-documents, focusing on semi-structured documents where layout and structure play important roles. Used computer vision and deep language models for structured information extraction.
Sept 2019 - Feb 2020
Research Intern - Microsoft Research Lab, India
Worked on problems at the confluence of computer vision and healthcare. Project focused on detection of Keratoconus (eye disease) using smartphone camera technology.
June 2018 - Mar 2020
AI/ML Program Mentor - TalentSprint
Worked as program mentor and tutor for AI/ML training program. Mentoring students in machine learning and AI concepts - learning by teaching.
July 2017 - Sept 2019
MS by Research - IIIT Hyderabad
Research assistant at CVIT-lab under Prof. Vineet Gandhi. Completed MS thesis with two successful research projects resulting in scientific publications. Also served as Teaching Assistant for Statistical Methods in AI (SMAI) course.
Jan 2017 - June 2017
Cloud Solution Deployment Engineer Intern - Searce Inc
6-month internship working on cloud solution deployment and engineering projects.
2013 - 2017
B.Tech Computer Science - IIIT Vadodara
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering. Part of the first batch of IIIT-Vadodara. Served as Head of Mess Committee and was active in badminton. Also worked as Teaching Assistant for DBMS and Speech Science and Technology courses.

Research Projects

A selection of research projects published during my academic and professional career

TextureToMTF

TextureToMTF: Predicting Spatial Frequency Response In The Wild

Having a good smartphone camera doesn't always guarantee that the images captured with it will have good quality. This research focuses on predicting spatial frequency response from texture patterns in natural images.

ColorArt

ColorArt: Suggesting Colorizations of Graphic Arts Using Optimal Color-Graph Matching

Graphics designs are visually appealing only when they are colored appropriately. This is a fully automatic colorization algorithm for graphic patterns using optimal color-graph matching techniques.

SmartKC

SmartKC: Smartphone-based Corneal Topographer for Keratoconus Detection

Keratoconus is a severe eye disease affecting the cornea, causing it to become thin and develop a conical bulge. SmartKC is a smartphone-based low-cost diagnostic tool for early detection.
